Where Vert Comes From

The Instinct to Share It

Long before the certifications, José was the one people followed into the mountains. Cousins, friends, whoever was around — somehow they always ended up roped to him, higher than they'd planned, grinning about it afterwards. Nobody called it guiding back then. It was just who he was: the person who saw a line and immediately wanted to share it.

Vert is what happened when that instinct met its moment. The trip ideas had been piling up for years — routes, camps, whole seasons sketched out over dinners — until one day it was obvious there was more here than a pastime. So we gave it a name, made it professional, and kept the part that mattered: small groups, certified guiding, and the feeling of being taken up something beautiful by someone who genuinely can't wait to show it to you.

José has been climbing for over ten years — and guiding, in a sense, far longer: officially in Spain and Morocco, unofficially since he was old enough to talk his cousins into an adventure. Away from work he's rarely still. Ski mountaineering, trail running, alpinism — whatever the season offers, he's out in it.

The rock has taken him well beyond home ground: serious routes in Ecuador, the United States, France, Italy, Switzerland — and lately Norway. That range shows in his guiding: technique, calm, and genuine enthusiasm, whether you're tying in for the first time or you've been climbing for decades. More than a guide, José is a rope partner who earns your trust from the first knot.

Monica spent years as a scientist detecting faint signals in oceans of noise — a skill that turns out to transfer surprisingly well to planning mountain trips. She's the one who optimises every decision at Vert: the logistics, the timing, the reply to your email, the detail nobody notices because it simply worked.

The rest of the time she's doing things — climbing, learning something new, saying yes to the next adventure. So when the idea of Vert appeared, she fell in love with it instantly: a company to build from scratch, trips to invent, and mountains as the office.

How We Think About Guiding

Unhurried, on Purpose

Most of the industry sells summits by the day. We think the mountains are best learned slowly.

Confidence is built one well-placed piece of gear at a time. So we'd rather spend an extra hour at the anchor getting your clove hitch automatic than rush you up something you'll only half remember. We'd rather tell you a route is beyond you today — and show you exactly what it takes to get there — than sell you a summit you didn't really climb.

And when you're ready for something bigger — a long ridge, a wall far from home, a line that needs a season behind it — that patience pays off. Because by then, you won't be following a guide. You'll be climbing with one.
