What You'll Climb

Costa Brava offers impressive blue beaches, boat trips, and mediterranean cuisine. In addition, above L'Estartit there's a sunny hidden limestone sector called Torre Moratxa. Routes in the crag offer possibilities for both first-timers and experienced climbers.

Grades run from V up to 6c. This crag works nicely for groups who want a fun day out, no matter the level of the members. You will be surrounded by astonishing views - the Medes Archipelago float just offshore, and the view stretches to the mouth of the Ter. A proper reason to take some rests between moves and look around!

★ Good for a genuine first outdoor day

This is one of the greatest sectors we run - short approach, sunny, well-featured limestone, and enough easy terrain that someone stepping outside from the climbing gym for the first time is properly looked after.

Who it suits

Almost anyone who climbs, including a first day outdoors. If you're already comfortable on multi-pitch and want something bigger, our sea-cliff multi-pitch day at Cala Montgó — reached by boat — is the step up, twenty minutes down the coast.

Before You Book: Requirements & FAQs

What the climbing's actually like, whether it suits your level, and the practical side of a day in Girona.

The climbing
What's Torre Moratxa like?
A sunny limestone sector above L'Estartit with routes from grade V up to 6c — well-featured, vertical to slightly overhanging, with a short approach and views over the Illes Medes and the mouth of the Ter.
Is this suitable for a complete beginner?
Yes — it's one of the more forgiving sectors we run. The easy grades, short approach and sunny aspect make it a genuinely good choice for a first day outdoors, with your guide picking lines to match how you're climbing.
Is there anything for a stronger climber too?
Yes, up to 6c on this wall — enough to keep an experienced climber interested, especially in a mixed-ability group where everyone's climbing the same sector at their own level.
How does this compare to your Cala Montgó trip?
This is the accessible, all-levels version of a Costa Brava climbing day. Our sea-cliff multi-pitch day at Cala Montgó is a different product entirely — a serious 103-metre route reached by boat, for climbers who already have real multi-pitch experience.
Practical
How do we get there from Barcelona?
Around an hour and forty-five minutes by car, mostly motorway. There's no practical public transport option, so if you don't have a car, tell us when you book and we'll work something out.
Can we swim afterwards?
Yes, and most people do. L'Estartit sits right on the coast, and a swim after a sunny day on the rock is one of the better parts of the trip. Bring a towel.
When's the best time of year?
Spring and autumn are ideal, and winter is often surprisingly good here — the coast stays milder than inland Catalunya. Midsummer can get hot, so we'd start early.
What do I need to bring?
Your own climbing shoes if you have them, a swimsuit if you fancy the sea afterwards, sun protection, water and food. All technical gear is provided, and we have loan shoes if you need them.
Can we come as a group?
Yes, up to six per guide. For a bigger group we bring in a second guide — tell us your numbers and we'll organise it.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If conditions genuinely rule out climbing, we reschedule or refund.
Want to go bigger?

Our Sea-Cliff Multi-Pitch at Cala Montgó is the more committing Costa Brava day, reached by boat, for climbers with multi-pitch experience. For sport climbing closer to Barcelona, try Siurana or Margalef.
